A great post-project practice is to give yourself some time away from the project to reflect on what went well, what did not go so well, and how you would improve the product or process the next time.
Below are a couple bulleted lists addressing just that.
So, what went well?
- Using Notion to manage this project was incredibly helpful, it kept research, design systems, user insights, and stakeholder feedback all in one organized space from start to finish.
- I gained valuable insights through generative and evaluative research, including diary studies, sorting exercises, and user interviews. These findings were instrumental in shaping the final experience and will absolutely remain a core part of my process.
- Once I landed on a direction for the Expedia Rewards visual identity, everything fell into place, the brand system felt intentional, motivating, and aligned with the product’s purpose.
- I really enjoyed wearing multiple hats across the UX process, from conducting research and mapping user journeys, to prototyping, UI design, and system thinking. This full-spectrum involvement allowed me to design a solution that was both thoughtful and scalable.
That's nice, but what needs improvement?
- Incorporating motion and micro interactions to demonstrate key flows, like tier progression or points redemption, could have added an extra layer of clarity and emotional engagement to the experience.
- Some of the survey questions could have been more targeted or behaviourally specific, which might have surfaced even deeper insights into user motivations and barriers.
- Exploring a way to unify both solution pathways, progress tracking and achievement-based rewards, into a more seamless journey could have reduced cognitive load and provided a more intuitive, single-entry experience for users.
That's it!
That’s a wrap! Working on the Expedia Rewards redesign was an incredibly rewarding experience (pun intended 😊). From diving deep into user research to building scalable systems and refining the brand identity, this project pushed me to think holistically and design with clarity, care, and consistency.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed insights, from collaborators to mentors who offered thoughtful feedback along the way. Your input made this work stronger.
Currently, I’m looking to join a mission-driven design team where I can contribute to meaningful, user-centered products. If you're hiring or know someone who is feel free to reach out. I’d love to connect →[email protected]
